January’s movie is Nomadland (2020) starring Frances McDormand.
Based on the 2017 nonfiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder. A woman in her sixties, after losing everything in the Great Recession (Dec. 2007-June 2009), embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van dwelling modern day nomad. A number of real life nomads appear as fictionalized versions of themselves. David Strathairn also stars in a supporting role.
